Rents in the UK are rising at rapid rates

According to property website Zoopla, rents in the UK are rising at the fastest rates since 2008.

Private sector rents were an average of £968 a month, which is 4.6% higher than last year.

Rents across the UK are 6% higher than last year, said Zoopla. This statistic does not include London. The fastest rates are in the South West of the UK, where rents increased by 9%.

“The swing back of demand into city centres, including London, has underpinned another rise in rents in quarter three, especially as the supply of rental property remains tight,” said Grainne Gilmore, the head of research at Zoopla.

“Meanwhile, just as in the sales market, there is still a cohort of renters looking for properties offering more space, or a more rural or coastal location.”
